Marsh Hen Mill Jimmy Red Grits

$12.00

Jimmy Red Grits are a success story for Marsh Hen Mill and for all those who believe in reviving good things from the past that have been forgotten.  Greg spent eight years cultivating the almost-extinct variety of kernels on Edisto Island. This mission all started with a few preserved samples from James Islander Ted Chewning. Sean Brock was interested in bringing back the variety to his restaurants and Greg and the family were able to help make that happen.

ABOUT GEECHIE BOY MILL (SOON TO BE MARSH HEN MILL)

On their Edisto Island farm, Greg and Betsy Johnsman operate historic working mills, creating grits used in the country’s finest restaurants, including James Beard award-winning chefs in Charleston and around the nation. On a 3-acre garden next to their market, they grow a variety of heirloom vegetables and specialty crops at the request of chefs.

Authenticity is a hallmark of Geechie Boy products. Heirloom corn is used in the antique gristmills, which preserve the natural oils and flavors of the corn resulting in the most flavorful grits.
